Skoda Rapid AC Problems

I'm experiencing some air conditioning problems with my 2002 Skoda Rapid, gasoline engine. The air conditioning no longer cools, and the system doesn't switch on at all. There's also a warning light illuminated on the speedometer. Diagnostics revealed an error stored in the error memory, and the likely cause is a defective air conditioning control unit. Could this be related to auto refrigerant levels, or is it likely an electrical issue within the automotive cooling system?

Sounds familiar. I had similar AC unit issues with my Skoda Rapid. Is the compressor kicking on at all? Sometimes it's just a relay or the pressure switch. Have you checked those?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the relay or pressure switch specifically. Where are those typically located, and is there a way to test them without specialized tools? Also, when you say similar issues, was it also diagnosed as a faulty AC unit?

Yes, it was diagnosed as a faulty AC unit in my case too. The relay is usually in the fuse box near the battery, and the pressure switch is somewhere on the refrigerant lines. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with electrical testing and refrigerant handling, it's probably best to take it to a workshop. Refrigerant is nasty stuff, and you need special equipment to deal with it properly.

Thanks for your input. I took it to a local workshop, and after diagnostics, they confirmed the AC unit was indeed faulty. Ended up costing me 980€ for the replacement and refrigerant refill, but at least the car is cooling again.
