Skoda Rapid Air Conditioning Problems

I'm having trouble with the air conditioning in my 2009 Skoda Rapid with a gasoline engine, which has around 139894 km on it. A diagnostic scan showed an error code related to the temperature sensor on the heat exchanger, and an error message appears in the speedometer. The air conditioning system won't engage. It seems like the air conditioning control unit might be faulty, potentially costing around 980€ to repair. Any ideas?

Sounds like a faulty heat exchanger temperature sensor. The air conditioning system uses that sensor to stop the evaporator from freezing. I had a similar problem with my Rapid. Check the sensor and the wiring to it. Sometimes it's just a bad connection.

Thanks for the response. What do you mean by 'heat exchanger temperature sensor'? Is that the same as the coolant temperature sensor that regulates engine cooling, or is it a separate sensor for the HVAC system? Also, regarding the wiring, are there specific areas I should check for damage or corrosion?

The heat exchanger temperature sensor is separate from the engine coolant temperature sensor; it monitors the temperature of the evaporator core in your HVAC system. For the wiring, check the connector at the sensor for corrosion and make sure the wires aren't broken or frayed. If you're not comfortable with that, take it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and calibrate the sensor if needed.

I wanted to share that I took my Skoda Rapid to a trusted workshop. They confirmed the heat exchanger temperature sensor was defective and also found a fault with the air conditioning control unit, as suspected. The repair cost was 980€. The air conditioning is now working, and the error message is gone. Thanks for the help.
