Interesting, you mentioned oil sludge. How dark is 'too dark' when checking the oil color? And is there anything else I should be looking for besides the color?

Think of it like this: fresh engine oil should look like honey, but used oil will darken over time. If it resembles thick molasses, that's a bad sign. If your engine oil color is suspiciously dark and the oil pressure warning lamp lights up, you definitely have excessive wear and tear. It's probably best to get it to a workshop for an oil change and inspection as soon as possible. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Got it sorted. The mechanic confirmed it was exactly as suspected: an overdue oil change leading to oil sludge. Cost me 165€ for the oil change and a new filter. Thanks for the help!

That oil pressure warning light is never a good sign. I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot, though it was petrol. The oil light flickered, and the engine started sounding rough. Have you checked the engine oil color? Is it darker than usual? This could be due to exceeding the maintenance interval, leading to oil sludge.
