Skoda Rapid Stalling at Idle

I'm officially losing it. My 2019 Skoda Rapid with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The check engine light is on, and it keeps stalling at idle. It's got a lot of km on the clock. I'm thinking it's something to do with the fuel tank ventilation, maybe the EVAP system? I've heard that can cause issues. Anyone else had this happen?

A similar issue plagued my older Vauxhall Astra, albeit with a different engine configuration. The symptoms you described—check engine light illumination coupled with instances of engine stall at idle—strongly suggest a potential malfunction within the EVAP system. Have you by any chance inspected the integrity of the hoses connected to the tank ventilation valve for any signs of obstruction or degradation? What diagnostic codes were registered when the engine light came on? Knowing the specific codes would greatly assist in narrowing down the scope of the problem.

Hoses to the tank ventilation valve, huh? Hadn't really thought about that. Is it a pain to get to? And what exactly am I looking for – cracks, kinks, or what?

Indeed, gaining access to the tank ventilation valve and its associated hoses can sometimes present a challenge depending on the vehicle's design. When inspecting the hoses, meticulously examine them for any indications of cracking, kinking, or general deterioration. Furthermore, ensure that the connections are secure and free from any potential air leaks. Given the potential complexity of the EVAP system and the need for specialized diagnostic equipment, it might be prudent to seek the expertise of a qualified automotive technician. They possess the necessary tools and knowledge to accurately diagnose and rectify the underlying issue, potentially saving you time and resources in the long run.

Just wanted to close the loop on this. Took your advice and went to a shop. Turns out you were spot on! They found the tank ventilation valve was faulty and some hoses were clogged, just like you suspected. New valve, cleared the hoses, and the engine light is gone! Cost me about 175€, but totally worth it. Thanks for the help!
