The hissing does get louder as I accelerate. How can I be sure it's the manifold flap control before I start replacing parts?

If the hissing gets louder with acceleration, it definitely points to an air intake issue related to the manifold flap. A diagnostic check should confirm it, but all the signs suggest it's faulty. I recommend taking it to a workshop.

Thanks for the insight. The workshop confirmed it was the intake manifold flap control. Cost me 465€ to get it sorted. Engine performance is back to normal now.

That sounds rough! Reduced power and jerking aren't fun. Does the hissing sound change with engine speed? A faulty manifold flap could mess with the air intake and cause those symptoms. I would be worried!
