Skoda Roomster Diesel Engine Troubles

My 2014 Skoda Roomster with a diesel engine is giving me fits. The engine light is on, power is way down, engine response is terrible, and I'm burning fuel like crazy. My code reader is showing a crankshaft to camshaft reference value error. From what I've read, it sounds like a defective crankshaft sensor. Does that seem right? Could that one sensor really cause all these problems? I’m desperate for some guidance before I end up at the mercy of some expensive garage

Sounds like a headache Engine light and poor performance are never fun. That crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue often points to timing problems. Has the timing chain ever been checked or replaced on your Roomster? Also, any recent work done near the crankshaft or cam sensor? Just trying to get a clearer picture of what might be going on. A faulty cam sensor could also trigger similar symptoms and generate misfire events. I had a similar issue on my old Passat and it turned out to be a worn cam sensor.

Thanks for the quick reply The timing chain hasn't been touched as far as I know, and no recent work has been done around those sensors. Could a failing crankshaft sensor cause all these symptoms engine light, power loss, and drinking more fuel? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary repairs, you know

A dodgy crankshaft sensor can definitely cause all those symptoms. It messes with the engine synchronization and fuel injection, leading to the issues you're seeing. If you're not comfortable tackling it yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop. They can properly diagnose it and replace the sensor. It's a pretty common issue. Best of luck

Roomster fixed Crankshaft sensor replacement did the trick. The engine light is gone, power's back, and she's running smoothly. Cost 340€, but worth it. Thanks for the help
