Skoda Scala engine issues

I'm at my wit's end with my 2021 Skoda Scala with a gasoline engine. It has 162749 km on the clock, and recently, I've been experiencing some rather alarming issues. The check engine light is constantly on, the engine is overheating, and I've noticed coolant spilling under the car – presumably due to excessive pressure in the cooling system. After running a diagnostic, it seems to point towards a control unit communication error. Could this be a software glitch? I am suspecting a defective cable or plug connection of the component. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem?

Sounds like a headache! I had a similar issue with my Scala, though mine was throwing different codes. Check the wiring and connectors to the engine control module. A loose or corroded connection can wreak havoc on the data link and cause all sorts of weird issues. Has the car been throwing any diagnostic trouble codes?

Thanks for the quick reply! You mentioned checking the wiring and connectors to the engine control module. Could you give me a bit more detail on where exactly to look, and what I should be looking for specifically? Was your issue also causing the engine to overheat and the coolant to spill?

Yes, excessive pressure in the cooling system and overheating were also happening in my case. It turned out to be a faulty connector that was causing intermittent communication with the control unit. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with car electrics, I'd advise taking it to a workshop. They'll be able to properly diagnose the issue and repair it. I was lucky to solve it quickly.

Thank you so much for your help! I took it to my local garage, and you were spot on. They found a corroded connector on the control unit, which was causing all sorts of problems. They cleaned it up and replaced the connector. The diagnostic trouble code is gone, the engine is no longer overheating, and the cooling system seems to be holding pressure correctly now. The whole thing cost me just 95€, parts and labor included! I'm extremely grateful for your quick response, which saved me a lot of anxiety!
