Skoda Scala engine running rich

Alright, I'm hoping someone can give me a little direction on this issue I'm having with my 2019 Skoda Scala, gasoline engine, with about 238570 km on the clock. The engine is running way too rich. I'm experiencing reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, the engine runs rough, fuel consumption is higher than normal, and I get some jerking when accelerating. I've checked the intake manifold for leaks, but everything seems fine. I suspect it might be a defective fuel injector or injectors. Any thoughts before I start pulling things apart?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Scala. Check engine light, rough running, the whole shebang. Did you notice if the exhaust smelled strongly of fuel? Mine did. It ended up being a bad oxygen sensor. Have you checked that yet?

Good question about the exhaust smell – yes, definitely smelled strongly of fuel. The oxygen sensor was something I considered, but the diagnostic code pointed towards a rich mixture, which made me think it was more fuel-related. Could a faulty oxygen sensor really cause such a rich mixture that it leads to jerking and power loss?

Yep, the rich mixture threw me off at first too! But a faulty oxygen sensor can definitely mess with the fuel/air ratio, causing the engine to dump in too much fuel. But since you've smelled fuel, and you are experiencing jerking, it sounds like you might be right about the fuel injectors. Honestly, with that many kilometers, it might be time to get them checked professionally. It's a pain to diagnose without the right tools. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It really helped me narrow things down. Turns out it was indeed a faulty fuel injector. Had all four replaced, plus new spark plugs since they were fouled. Cost me 515€, but the Scala is running smoothly again.
