Skoda Scala Gear Shift Indicator Problems

I'm officially losing my mind over my 2022 Skoda Scala with a gasoline engine! This thing has a lot of kilometers on it, and suddenly the gear shift indicator on the car dashboard is completely bonkers. I can't even engage the gears properly! The automatic transmission shifts all weird, like it's slipping or something. And to top it off, there's this awful grinding noise when it finally does shift. The gear selection display in the speedometer is useless. Plus, the error memory has a fault stored. I've heard it might be a defective control unit, and the repair cost could be around 1000€! Has anyone else experienced this nightmare? Any ideas?

That sounds like a sensor problem. Is the error stored in the error memory? Does it happen all the time, or only sometimes?

A sensor problem, huh? Interesting. Is that like when your phone's screen gets all glitchy and you have to restart it? How would a sensor cause all these problems, and why would it cost so much to fix?

The issues you are describing do point towards a defective control unit. Given the symptoms and the stored error, it is advisable to take the vehicle to a workshop for a diagnosis. It is likely the control unit needs replacing.

You're a lifesaver! I took your advice and brought my Scala to the workshop. Turns out you were spot on – the control unit was indeed defective. They replaced it, and the gear shift indicator is working perfectly again. Cost me about 1000€, just like they estimated. Thanks a million!
