Skoda Superb diesel engine issues

My 2017 Skoda Superb with a diesel engine is giving me a lot of grief. With only 34898 km on the clock, the check engine light illuminated recently, and the engine now occasionally stalls, especially at idle. I've also noticed a significant reduction in engine power. After hooking it up to a diagnostic tool, it's showing a 'Rail pressure sensor signal faulty' error. I suspect the fuel pressure sensor itself is defective, but I'm no expert on modern fuel injection systems. Before I go ahead and replace it, has anyone experienced something similar with their diesel engine? Any advice on further troubleshooting, or is a sensor replacement the most likely solution? I am trying to avoid unnecessary expenses.

I had a similar issue with my Skoda Superb, although it was a while ago. I also have a diesel engine. From what I remember, the engine stalling and loss of power were pretty annoying. Did you check the wiring to the fuel pressure sensor? Sometimes a loose connection can cause these symptoms.

Thanks, that's really helpful! Can you remember if your check engine light was also on? And where was the loose connection, if any? I visually inspected the sensor and wiring, but maybe I missed something. I am really trying to avoid a costly visit to a mechanic if the sensor is fine.

Yes, the check engine light was definitely on. And honestly, I didn't find any loose connections myself. I took it to the workshop, they ran some proper diagnostics and confirmed the fuel pressure sensor was faulty. Considering your symptoms and the error code, I would suggest doing the same. Replacing the sensor might indeed be the solution.

Following your advice I took my Skoda to a certified workshop, they confirmed the defective fuel rail pressure sensor. They replaced it and after recalibration everything is running smoothly now. The repair cost me around 240€ including parts and labor. Thanks a lot for your help!
