I got a P0335 code, which points to the crankshaft position sensor. You mentioned checking the wiring; is that something I can do myself, or is it better left to a professional? I am a bit worried about messing with the timing chain or timing belt.

Yes, the P0335 confirms the crankshaft sensor issue. You can visually inspect the wiring for obvious damage, but testing it properly requires a multimeter and some knowledge of electrical testing procedures. Given your concern about the timing chain, and if you are not comfortable with electrical diagnostics, it's best to have a workshop handle it. A misfire due to incorrect timing can cause serious engine damage.

It was the crankshaft sensor. Replacement fixed it; engine light is off, and power is restored. The total cost was 340€.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Yeti: check engine light, reduced power, and excessive fuel consumption. Did you check for any fault codes? A faulty cam sensor can trigger those symptoms, but the crankshaft sensor is more likely given the code you're seeing. Examine the wiring to the sensor as well; sometimes it's just a loose connection or damaged wire.
