Skoda Yeti Diesel power loss and smoke
Summary of the thread
A Skoda Yeti owner experienced significant engine power loss and smoke during acceleration, suspecting a diesel particulate filter (DPF) issue. A suggestion was made to check the backpressure sensor and consider a forced regeneration to burn off soot in the DPF. Ultimately, a workshop inspection confirmed a defective DPF, leading to its replacement, which resolved the problem.

I haven't checked the backpressure sensor, honestly I wouldn't know where to start. And no, I didn't try a forced regeneration. What exactly does that do, and is it something I could do myself, or is it best left to the professionals?

A forced regeneration basically burns off the soot inside the DPF at a higher temperature than normal. It requires a diagnostic tool to initiate and monitor the process. Given the smoke and power loss, the DPF is likely beyond cleaning. You're probably looking at replacement, unfortunately. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for a vehicle inspection to confirm the DPF issue and get a quote.

Thank you so much for your help! I took it to a workshop, and after a vehicle inspection, they confirmed it was a defective DPF. I ended up having to replace the whole thing, cost me about 1550€. Ouch! But at least the car is running smoothly now.

Sounds like a classic DPF issue. I had something similar with my Yeti, though I don't remember the build year. Have you checked the backpressure sensor? A sensor fault can trigger similar symptoms, even if the DPF isn't completely blocked. Also, did you try a forced regeneration using a diagnostic tool?
