Skoda Yeti rain light sensor problem

I need some help with a weird electrical fault on my 2009 Skoda Yeti diesel. The error memory keeps flagging up a rain-light sensor fault. The wipers won't work in auto mode, headlights are all over the place, and even the speedometer dimming is gone! It's like the whole auto sensor system has packed it in. Anyone else had something similar? I'm thinking it might be the light sensor itself, or maybe a calibration issue? Any advice would be appreciated!

Sounds like a dodgy rain-light sensor, similar to what I experienced with my Yeti. Does your auto headlight function play up too? I'd check the sensor itself, see if there's any visible damage or condensation. It's located at the top of the windshield, near the rearview mirror.

Yeah, the auto headlights are acting weird, switching on even in broad daylight! Is it a difficult job to check the sensor? Do I need any special tools, or is it something a reasonably handy user could manage?

Okay, speedometer dimming too? That seals it I think. It's almost certainly the sensor. While you could technically try to check it yourself, it's a bit like brain surgery – possible, but not recommended without the right tools and knowledge. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it diagnosed properly. The gel pad on the windshield can sometimes develop bubbles, which messes with the sensor. They can replace the sensor and calibrate it properly.

Spot on! The workshop confirmed the rain-light sensor was faulty due to bubbles under the gel pad. A new sensor and calibration cost me 62€. Everything's working perfectly now. I appreciate the help!
