Skoda Yeti Turbo Issues

Alright, my 2010 Skoda Yeti with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. Check engine light is on, and power is way down. Feels like major turbo lag. VCDS is showing a boost pressure control fault. I'm thinking it might be a defect in a vacuum switching valve, could that be it? Fuel consumption is also higher than usual. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar! I had something similar with my Yeti a while back. Check engine light, felt like I was towing a boat, the works. For me, it was a dodgy boost solenoid. Have you checked the intake manifold for any leaks? A pressure drop anywhere can cause turbo lag and throw up error codes. If the pressure sensor isn't reading correctly, that could be it too.

So, when you say 'dodgy boost solenoid', was it throwing a specific code? And did you notice any difference in fuel consumption?

Yeah, it threw a code related to boost pressure not reaching the requested value. And yes, fuel consumption definitely took a hit. It felt like the engine was working overtime to compensate. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop; they should be able to pinpoint it. For me, it was the boost solenoid, but it could be something else in the boost control system causing a pressure drop. It's worth checking the simple things first though.

Cheers for the help. It was indeed the boost solenoid, or vacuum switching valve as some call it. Replaced it and the car is back to normal. Cost me 140€ all in.
