SL Engine Running Rough
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Mercedes SL with a gasoline engine is experiencing rough idling, stalling, and increased fuel consumption, leading to suspicions of a dirty diesel injection valve. However, the issue is identified as a defective injection nozzle, which aligns with the symptoms of difficult starting and reduced engine power. The solution involves confirming the problem through error codes and replacing the faulty nozzle, resulting in improved engine performance.

Error codes? Where would I even check for something like that? Is that something I can do myself or is it workshop time?

You can get a basic OBD2 scanner pretty cheap, but if you're not comfortable using it, best bet is a workshop. Defective injection nozzle seems likely with those symptoms. Fuel consumption and reduced power point to that. Could try an injector cleaner first, but might be a waste of time and money. The repair cost me around 500€.

Thanks for the help! Took it to a workshop and they confirmed it was a defective injection nozzle. Repair cost was 515€, but it's running great now!

Rough idling and stalling on a gasoline engine SL could be a few things. I had similar performance issues with my Mercedes. Turned out to be a defective injection nozzle. Have you checked for any error codes? Could also be related to fuel filter or pump issues. Any recent work done on the vehicle engine?
