SL oil level sensor issue

My 2006 Mercedes SL with a gasoline engine is throwing some weird errors. I'm getting an error message and a warning light in the speedometer, also the oil pressure warning lamp lights up. The error memory says there's a problem with the oil level sensor signal, or the oil level sensor itself. Seems to coincide with the automotive oil level monitoring acting up. I'm thinking it might be a defective cable or plug connection. Anyone else had this and know what I'm in for? Estimate is 95€.

I had a similar issue with my SL. It was also related to the oil sensor. The oil sensor signal can be finicky. Have you checked the connection to the sensor itself? Sometimes they get corroded or loose.

Where exactly is that automotive oil level sensor located? I'm not totally sure where to look for the plug connection you're talking about. I want to check the engine oil level sensor connection myself, but don't want to mess with anything else in the engine.

It's usually on the lower part of the engine oil pan. Given the symptoms and error codes, plus your lack of familiarity, I'd recommend having a workshop take a look. It could save you from causing more damage.

Okay, thanks for the info. Turns out the issue was exactly what you and the initial estimate suggested: a faulty connection to the automotive oil level sensor. Got it sorted at the workshop for 95€, so all good now! I appreciate the advice.
