SLC rain light sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Mercedes SLC is experiencing a rain-light sensor fault, affecting the automatic wipers, headlights, and speedometer dimming. The suspected cause is bubbles under the gel pad on the windshield, interfering with rain detection. A similar issue was resolved by addressing these bubbles, which were confirmed as the problem and fixed for a cost. The solution involved checking the sensor behind the rearview mirror and consulting a workshop for repair.

Okay, so the rain sensor is usually integrated with the light sensor, right behind the rearview mirror, attached to the windshield. As for checking for damage, well, that's tricky. In my case, the dealer pointed out the problem right away. The bubbles were visible under the gel pad on the windshield. He advised me to go to the workshop.

That sounds awfully familiar. I have an SLC too, though I can't recall the exact build year at the moment. I experienced something similar a while back. My rain sensor went haywire, and it messed with the light sensor as well. The automatic headlight control was the first thing I noticed. Does your car have issues with sensor calibration? I remember reading that sometimes the angle needs adjusting after a windshield replacement, or even just with age and general car electronics weirdness. Have you checked for any obvious damage to the sensor itself?
