SM3 start stop problem

Hey, I've got a 2005 Renault SM3 with a gasoline engine and I'm having a weird issue with what I think is the start-stop system. Basically, the engine shuts off sometimes, and a warning light pops up in the speedometer. I checked the error memory, and there's something stored there... Any ideas?

Greetings. I am familiar with Renault SM3s experiencing such difficulties. Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery may resolve your issue. However, the system is designed to cut off the engine when the vehicle stops in order to save fuel. The error could be that your car battery is defective and needs to be replaced. This can be confirmed with a simple battery load test using automotive diagnostic equipment. Has your car been doing this since you bought it, or is this a recent development?

Thanks for the quick reply! No, it's only started happening recently. Like, in the last few weeks. Is the start-stop system really that sensitive to the battery condition?

Indeed, modern start-stop systems are rather sensitive to battery health. The vehicle's computer monitors the battery's charge level and overall condition. When the voltage drops below a certain threshold, the start-stop function is automatically disabled to ensure the engine can be restarted reliably. The most appropriate course of action would be to take it to a workshop for confirmation. I had to pay 290€ for a new car battery.

Okay, good to know it sounds like a battery issue. I’ll take it to a shop and have them check it out. Thanks for your help!
