SM5 oil temperature warning

I own a 2013 Renault SM5 with a gasoline engine. The engine oil temperature warning light illuminates, and an error is stored. The oil pressure warning lamp lights up intermittently. Could a defective cable or plug connection of the oil temperature sensor be the reason?

I have an SM5 as well and experienced something similar. I was getting erratic oil pressure readings and the temp gauge was all over the place. Was the engine actually overheating or did it seem normal despite the warning lights?

The engine itself seems to be running normally, without any noticeable overheating or performance issues, despite the warning lights. Can you elaborate on whether the issues you encountered manifested similarly?

Yes, that's exactly how mine was acting. Engine ran fine, but the warnings persisted. Given that, and if you aren't experienced with car diagnostics, I suggest you take it to a workshop to get it checked out properly. Could save you some hassle in the long run.

I appreciate the information. Following your advice, I had a workshop diagnose the problem. It was indeed the engine oil temperature sensor, specifically a faulty connection as suspected. The repair cost was 95€. Thank you for your help.
