SM5 Tailgate Hall Sensor Fault

My 2008 Renault SM5 with a gasoline engine has a tailgate that only opens a little bit. I scanned for errors and found a tailgate hall sensor fault. Any similar problems?

A tailgate hall sensor fault on an SM5 is a bit odd but not unheard of. Have you checked the wiring and plug connection to the sensor? Sometimes those get corroded or damaged, causing sensor issues. How many kilometers are on it?

Thanks! I haven't checked the wiring and plug connection myself, I'm not super confident with electrical work. It has 227897 km. Can I check the cable myself, or do I need special tools to check the sensor? How can I test the sensor after checking the cable?

With that mileage, the wiring or connector could be the problem. Visually inspect the cable for damage. The plug connection might just need cleaning. Testing the sensor itself is trickier and might require specialized equipment. If you're not comfortable, a workshop visit might be safer to avoid further problems. These sensor faults are really tricky.

Thanks! A shop found a defective cable/plug connection, like you suggested. They replaced it, and now the tailgate opens perfectly. The total cost was 95€, which isn't too bad. I appreciate your advice!
