SMAX Ride Height Issue

Hi, I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2018 Ford SMAX, gasoline engine. The ride height seems off. I get a warning light in the speedometer, and the low beams point way too low or too high. Visually, the car looks uneven, like the front axle sits at a different height than the rear. I also scanned for error codes and found one related to the height control system. The ride is pretty bumpy too. It has 55901 km. Any thoughts on what could be the problem?

The symptoms you've described certainly point towards a problem within the air suspension or ride height leveling system. Have you by any chance checked the leveling sensors themselves? They are usually connected to the suspension with control rods. If one of those rods is broken or disconnected, it will definitely cause the issues you're seeing. Have you had the car serviced recently?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't specifically checked the leveling sensors or their control rods, to be honest. Where exactly are they located, and is it something I could inspect myself without special tools? And no, there has not been a service recently.

Understood. The leveling sensors are typically mounted near each wheel, attached to the suspension arms. The control rods are small linkages connecting the sensor to the arm. While you might be able to visually inspect them for damage, I would advise proceeding carefully if you're not familiar with suspension components. Incorrect handling could potentially cause further issues. Based on your description, and considering you haven't had recent service, a defective control rod on a sensor is a strong possibility. A workshop should be able to identify this and replace it quickly and cheaply.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I suspected it might be something along those lines. I'll take it to a workshop and ask them to check the leveling sensors and control rods. It turned out to be exactly that: a broken control rod on the sensor. The repair cost me 110€, including the part and labor. Thanks again for your help!
