Sonata Diesel EGR Valve Issue

My 2012 Hyundai Sonata diesel is acting up. 194038 km on the clock. Getting reduced power, check engine light is on, and seeing smoke on acceleration. Engine runs rough, fuel consumption is up, and it jerks plus a loud hissing sound appears when I accelerate. Suspect a defective EGR valve. Thoughts?

I had similar symptoms with my Sonata. Check for vacuum leaks around the EGR valve and intake manifold first. A faulty catalytic converter can also cause similar issues, so rule that out. Any recent work done on the vehicle emissions system?

Given the symptoms, I would suggest getting a professional diagnosis. The EGR valve itself is likely jammed or defective, and the hissing sound could indicate a significant exhaust leak related to it. It's best to confirm before throwing parts at it. I had a similar experience.
