Sonata Hybrid Engine Light and Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is experiencing a check engine light, reduced engine power, and occasional white smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the crankcase ventilation valve, possibly causing oil to burn and leading to rough idling. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to prevent further engine damage.

Yeah, the idle is a little rough sometimes, now that you mention it. And the smoke is more white than dark. What exactly went wrong with your crankcase ventilation, and how did you figure it out?

Based on your description, it really sounds like the crankcase ventilation valve is defective. The white smoke indicates oil being burned. I'd strongly advise getting it checked by a professional. Prolonged driving with a faulty valve can lead to further engine damage.

Okay, I appreciate the input! I'll schedule an appointment with a workshop right away. Hopefully, it's just the valve and nothing more serious.

I had something similar happen with my Sonata. Did you notice any rough idling or strange smells? In my case, it turned out to be a crankcase ventilation issue. Is the smoke white-ish or more dark colored?
