Sonic exhaust flap issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is experiencing issues with a louder-than-usual exhaust, particularly after a cold start, and has an error code stored in the system. The problem is suspected to be related to the exhaust flap, potentially due to an exhaust blockage or a defective exhaust valve. A similar issue was resolved by confirming the exhaust flaps as the cause, suggesting that a visit to a reliable workshop for proper diagnosis and repair is advisable.

There's a slight decrease in performance, most noticeable at lower speeds. Did yours also throw an error code? And did it end up being the exhaust flaps?

Yep, mine threw a code too. And the mechanic confirmed it was the exhaust flaps. Honestly, it's probably best to take it to a reliable workshop. They can diagnose it properly and give you a definitive answer. But from your description, it sounds pretty much like what I went through.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll book an appointment with my local mechanic. I'm thinking it will cost about 190€, but at least now I have a better idea of what to expect.

I had something similar happen with my Sonic. Louder exhaust, especially on startup. I was worried it was something major. Could be the exhaust flaps, like you're thinking. I remember seeing something about that on another forum. Are you noticing any difference in the car's performance?
