Spider Camshaft Sensor Issue

My 1999 Renault Spider with a gasoline engine is starting poorly and has reduced power after 105935 km. The OBD reader shows a camshaft sensor error, and the sensor's cable and plug look suspect. Could this be the problem?

I had similar starting issues with my old Megane, though it was a dodgy connection to the crankshaft sensor. Symptoms sound similar. Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the sensor plug? Corrosion can cause problems. Is the engine light on constantly or flickering?

Thanks for the tip! I'll try cleaning the contacts. What did you use to clean them exactly? And the engine light is on constantly now, not flickering.

I used electrical contact cleaner, sprayed it into the plug, and connected/disconnected it a few times. If the engine light is solid and you have a camshaft sensor error, that's likely the issue. Given the car's age, it might be a faulty sensor. A replacement sensor is around 50€ online, so maybe around 95€ total with labor.

Cleaning the contacts didn't help. I took it to a local garage, and they confirmed it was the camshaft sensor and a corroded plug. They replaced both for 95€, and it's running perfectly now. Appreciate the help!
