Spider damping adjustment error
Summary of the thread
A 1999 Renault Spider owner experienced a damping adjustment error, with a fault stored in the error memory and a warning light on, leading to a bumpy ride. The suspected cause was a defective cable or plug connection. A suggestion was made to check and clean the connector near the shock absorber, which was found to be corroded. After cleaning the connector at a specialist workshop, the issue was resolved.

Thanks for the tip. Where exactly is that connector located? Is it easily accessible?

The connector is usually located near the top of the shock absorber, possibly under the wheel arch liner. Given the age of your vehicle and the symptoms you describe, a defective cable or plug connection is indeed the most probable cause. However, to avoid consequential damage, I advise you to have it checked in a specialist workshop. An accurate diagnosis with an oscilloscope can save you from replacing the wrong component.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop; you were right, it was a corroded connector. They cleaned it up and now it's all good. Cost me 95€.

I had a similar issue with my old BMW 5-series. The adaptive suspension system threw a similar error. The problem there was corrosion on the connector for the strut's damper control. Have you checked the wiring harness and connector leading to the shock absorber? Perhaps try cleaning the contacts with electrical contact cleaner?
