Spider Tire Pressure Sensor Fault

I'm facing a peculiar issue with my 1998 Renault Spider, the gasoline variant. The car reports "tire pressure too low". This isn't just a light; there's an actual error message displayed, and the error is persistently logged. I've checked the tire inflation manually, and the pressure is correct. My suspicion is a sensor fault, likely due to an empty sensor battery, though I'd welcome other suggestions.

I experienced a similar TPMS issue with my Spider. If the actual tire pressures are correct, it strongly suggests a problem with one or more of the tire pressure monitoring sensors (TPMS). These sensors typically have a limited battery life, and failure is common after a certain number of years. Have you tried to diagnose the specific sensor that's reporting the fault?

Thanks for the quick reply. No, I haven't isolated which sensor is failing. Is there a straightforward method to identify the culprit without specialized diagnostic equipment? Or, perhaps, is there a known common failure point among the four sensors in these cars?

Isolating the specific sensor usually requires a TPMS diagnostic tool that can read each sensor's ID and pressure reading. However, given the age of your vehicle, it's likely that all the sensors are nearing the end of their lifespan. My recommendation would be to take it to a workshop equipped with such tools. Trying to diagnose it without the appropriate equipment may be futile.

Understood. A trip to the workshop it is, then. Thanks for confirming my suspicions; saves me from chasing phantom electrical gremlins. The repair amounted to 280€, as they indeed replaced the faulty sensor. Much appreciated!
