Sprinter antenna issue diagnosis

My 2005 Mercedes Sprinter gasoline model, with 209273 km, has an odd problem that I think involves the bumper antenna. An error is stored, locking and unlocking are acting up, and now the engine needs the key in the ignition to start. I'm guessing it's a bad cable or plug. A replacement antenna is about 95€. Any ideas?

That sounds familiar. I had similar problems with my Sprinter. It definitely seems like the antenna or its wiring. Have you looked at the antenna mount for corrosion or damage? Signal interference can be a pain, especially with the locking system. Check the cable for breaks before replacing the antenna.

Thanks, that was fast. Were your symptoms exactly the same? Did you try anything besides checking the cable? Was it the antenna or just the connection?

Yes, almost the same. Weird locking, key needed in the ignition – everything. I messed with the connections and cleaned them, but it didn't help. I took it to a shop, and they said it was the antenna. They thought the internal parts of the antenna had failed, not just the connection, and suggested fixing or replacing it. I got a new antenna. It looks like it's a common problem.

Thanks for confirming. I'll bring it to the workshop. At least I know more about what to expect. Thanks again.
