Sprinter automatic transmission shifting issue

My 2002 Mercedes Sprinter with a gasoline engine is acting up. It has 114015 km on it. The automatic transmission isn't shifting right – feels like it's slipping or hesitating. The transmission indicator light is also on. It doesn't shift like it used to and feels like it's stuck in some kind of emergency mode. Could worn hydraulic fluid cause implausible shifting behavior of the car transmission?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo a while back. The automatic transmission was doing weird things. Check the voltage in the car. Could be undervoltage?

Undervoltage? How would that affect the automatic transmission? And what did you do to fix it on your Volvo?

Yeah, undervoltage can mess with the electronic control unit that manages the automatic transmission. The car needs enough juice to operate correctly. In my case, it was a bad battery connection. I'd suggest getting it checked. A workshop can probably diagnose it properly.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to a workshop, and you were right – it was indeed an undervoltage problem, causing the transmission to act up. They did an oil replacement. The total repair cost for the transmission oil was 240€.
