Sprinter diesel engine misfire problems
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Sprinter diesel engine is experiencing misfire issues, indicated by a check engine light, rough starts, and occasional stalling at idle. The problem is suspected to be related to the camshaft sensor or the encoder wheel. Sensor testing confirmed a faulty camshaft sensor, and replacing it resolved the issue, although the encoder wheel was also found to be defective. It is recommended to have the vehicle checked at a workshop for accurate diagnosis and repair.

It's throwing codes related to the camshaft sensor. I'm thinking sensor failure is most probable. Did replacing the sensor fix it, or was there more to it

Replacing the camshaft sensor resolved the issue. The mechanic mentioned the encoder wheel on the camshafts can also cause similar problems. It's best to get it checked at a workshop to be sure

That's helpful. It ended up being the camshaft sensor and also the encoder wheel was defective. I was quoted 695€ for the repair. I appreciate the insight

I had something similar with my Sprinter, also a diesel. Rough idling, plus the check engine light drove me nuts. They ran some sensor testing and found a faulty camshaft sensor. Could also be ignition timing if the sensor is sending bad info. Is it throwing any specific codes
