Sprinter Electric High Voltage System Error
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mercedes Sprinter Electric is experiencing a high-voltage system error, causing it to shut off and lose power, with a suspected defective battery. Possible causes include a heavily discharged battery, potentially worsened by a parasitic draw or faulty wiring, such as a bad ground connection leading to voltage fluctuations. Solutions involve checking the electrical wiring for damage, ensuring no systems draw power when off, and taking the vehicle to a workshop for a professional diagnosis and repair.

Thanks. The battery warning appears more often while driving, especially under heavier loads. I haven't checked the wiring, but I will. Can you tell me more about system malfunctions you've had related to wiring or parasitic drain?

I never had complete shutdowns, but my van displayed many unrelated error messages. It turned out to be a faulty ground connection in the wiring harness. This caused voltage fluctuations and false sensor readings. Since your engine is shutting off, get it checked immediately. Take your Sprinter to a workshop for a diagnosis. The high-voltage system is dangerous to handle without training. Ignoring it could lead to bigger repairs later.

Thanks for sharing your experience and the workshop recommendation. I took the Sprinter in, and they confirmed a heavily discharged battery, likely worsened by a small parasitic draw. The repair was 290€, including diagnostics and software. Your wiring insights helped guide the diagnosis. Thanks again.

I also have a Sprinter. I haven't had the engine cutting out, but I'm familiar with battery warnings and drain. Does the battery warning appear after the van sits idle or while you're driving? Have you checked the electrical wiring? Damage there could worsen battery drain. See if any systems are drawing power when the van is off.
