Sprinter parking brake malfunction

My 2008 Mercedes Sprinter with a gasoline engine has a malfunctioning electronic parking brake. The error memory has a fault, and the speedometer shows a warning light. It seems like a defective electric motor in the brake calliper. The estimated repair cost is around 505€. Has anyone else experienced this parking brake malfunction or a similar brake control problem? Could it be a faulty brake switch?

Oh man, that sounds familiar! I have a Sprinter too, though I can't remember the exact year, and I had a similar problem with my parking brake. Total pain! Honestly, I didn't even try to troubleshoot it myself. I'm no mechanic. Was the warning light always on, or did it come and go?

Thank you for your reply. The warning light is constantly illuminated. Were your symptoms identical, and did the repair involve replacing the calliper itself, or was it a simpler fix, such as the brake switch?

Yeah, the light was on all the time for me too. Pretty sure they replaced the whole calliper. I wouldn't mess with the brakes yourself, honestly. It's a vehicle safety thing. Just take it to a workshop, they'll sort it out.

I appreciate your advice; thank you. I've taken your suggestion and booked my Sprinter in for repair. The workshop confirmed the defective electric motor in the brake calliper. It's getting replaced. Hopefully, this resolves the parking brake issue for good.
