Sprinter parking brake malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Mercedes Sprinter with a gasoline engine is experiencing a malfunctioning electronic parking brake, indicated by a warning light on the speedometer and a fault in the error memory. The issue is suspected to be a defective electric motor in the brake calliper. A similar problem was resolved by replacing the entire calliper, and the vehicle has been booked for repair to address the defective motor.

Thank you for your reply. The warning light is constantly illuminated. Were your symptoms identical, and did the repair involve replacing the calliper itself, or was it a simpler fix, such as the brake switch?

Yeah, the light was on all the time for me too. Pretty sure they replaced the whole calliper. I wouldn't mess with the brakes yourself, honestly. It's a vehicle safety thing. Just take it to a workshop, they'll sort it out.

I appreciate your advice; thank you. I've taken your suggestion and booked my Sprinter in for repair. The workshop confirmed the defective electric motor in the brake calliper. It's getting replaced. Hopefully, this resolves the parking brake issue for good.

Oh man, that sounds familiar! I have a Sprinter too, though I can't remember the exact year, and I had a similar problem with my parking brake. Total pain! Honestly, I didn't even try to troubleshoot it myself. I'm no mechanic. Was the warning light always on, or did it come and go?
