Sprinter starting issue resolved

My 2006 Mercedes Sprinter with a gasoline engine won't start. It sometimes fires up briefly then dies, and an error light is flashing. Could it be the car immobilizer or a key programming issue stopping the ignition control? Could the remote start or security light be related? I don't know much about car electronics.

I had a similar problem with my Sprinter. The symptoms sound familiar. Does the security light blink rapidly when you try to start it? It could be a car immobilizer issue. Have you checked the car electronics? Does it store an error in the error memory? In my case it was

The security light does blink fast. What was it in your case? And how did you fix it? I'm not sure how to read the error memory.

Yes, rapid blinking definitely suggests an immobilizer problem. Unfortunately, I was not able to resolve the issue on my own, so I had to bring it to a workshop. They reprogrammed the key and it solved the problem with the ignition control. The programming of the key was incorrect and the engine started briefly and stopped again. I suggest you do the same and have a professional look at it. This could cost around 45€.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were right! They said the key needed reprogramming. Cost me 45€, but at least it's fixed. Really appreciate the help!
