Sprinter temperature and check engine light issue

My 2002 Mercedes Sprinter with a diesel engine is showing weird temperatures, the check engine light is on, and it's taking ages to warm up. Mileage is at 48453 km. Could this be related to restricted airflow through the cooling grille or some kind of radiator blockage?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Sprinter a while back. The thermal management system can be quite sensitive. Does it feel like the engine is running hotter than usual, even though the gauge might not be reading correctly? Have you checked for any obvious debris blocking the radiator?

No, it doesn't feel like overheating, just taking longer to reach normal temperature. I haven't seen anything blocking the radiator, but I haven't looked super closely. What exactly was the issue with your van? Was it a complete radiator blockage?

Not a complete blockage, but definitely restricted airflow. Turned out to be a faulty fuse related to the thermal management system which caused the cooling fan not to operate correctly, so the engine never reached optimal temperature. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop. They can run diagnostics and pinpoint the problem.

I appreciate the help. I'll take it in. It was a defective fuse. Cost me 52€ to replace. All good now.
