SQ8 Mirror Heater Fails After Recent Shop Visit

Help needed, Since my last repair shop visit, my side mirror heating stopped working on my 2019 SQ8 (198k km). Check engine light also came on with a stored error code. Concerned about vehicle safety during cold weather since I cant defrost the mirrors anymore. Anyone dealt with similar mirror heating problems? Looking for advice before going to another mechanic. Getting worried about potential costs for mirror replacement.

Having experienced this exact electrical fault on a 2016 S6, I can confirm this is typically a wiring harness issue rather than the heater element itself. During my repair visit, the technician found corroded connections where the wiring enters the rearview mirror housing. The problem caused both the mirror heating failure and triggered car electronics errors. It was not a serious issue requiring mirror replacement. The fix involved cleaning the connection points and replacing a small wiring section that runs through the door. The check engine light cleared after the repair. This is a known problem area where winter driving conditions can accelerate wire deterioration. The repair prevented potential safety issues during cold weather driving. Regular testing of mirror heating during seasonal changes helps catch these problems early. Having properly functioning heated mirrors is essential for maintaining clear visibility in winter conditions. Worth noting, the diagnostic showed the mirror heating element was fully functional, saving the cost of complete mirror assembly replacement. A proper electrical system check should be your first step before considering more extensive repairs.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the wiring harness fix. My car mirror issue sounds really similar to what you described. After dealing with temperature control problems and faulty car electronics for weeks, I finally had it checked. The mechanic also found corrosion in the wiring, but in my case, they had to replace additional components in the door control module. Do you remember roughly how much the repair cost in your case? Also curious if youve had any electrical fault issues since the fix? My winter driving has been much better after the repair, but Id like to know if I should expect any recurring problems.

Glad to hear you got the mirror heating issue resolved. The repair I had done was significantly cheaper than yours at 95 Euro for fixing a faulty cable connection near the rearview mirror housing. This included cleaning the corroded contact points and replacing the damaged wiring section. Since the repair, the temperature control and heating functions have worked flawlessly for over 18 months now. The vehicle safety systems and electronics have also remained stable with no recurring error codes. Having properly functioning mirror defrosting during cold weather makes such a difference for safe winter driving. The key was catching the issue before moisture could cause more extensive damage to the heater element or door control module. Regular testing of mirror heating functions, especially before winter season, helps prevent bigger issues from developing. Based on my experience, as long as the repair addressed all corrosion points and sealed the connections properly, you shouldnt expect further problems. The door control module replacement in your case should provide even more reliability than my simpler wiring fix.

After two months of worrying about my mirror heating issue, I finally took my car in last week. The mechanic found corroded wiring and a faulty door control module, just like mentioned. The total repair came to 380 Euro, which included new wiring and the module replacement. The temperature control for the mirrors works perfectly now. No more electrical fault warnings or check engine lights. Really relieved I didnt need a complete mirror replacement. The vehicle safety systems are all functioning normally again. My mechanic also showed me the corroded parts they removed. The winter salt and moisture had completely eaten through some of the wiring insulation. Good thing I got it fixed before more serious car electronics problems developed. Going to make mirror heating checks part of my regular maintenance routine now, especially before winter hits. Lesson learned about not waiting too long when these issues first appear.
