Squeaking sound in the steering wheel while parking

Hello, I own an Opel Crossland X and I've noticed a problem when parking the car. When I turn the steering wheel almost to its maximum, a squeaking noise is heard. I've also noticed that the power steering isn't working correctly. What could be causing these problems and how can I solve them? Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

A squeaking noise in the steering wheel while parking, along with power steering issues, could be caused by low power steering fluid. Checking and topping up the fluid level is a recommended first step, along with inspecting for leaks. If the issue continues, consulting a mechanic for a thorough inspection of the power steering system is advised.

Start by checking the power steering fluid level. Low fluid can cause both squeaking noises and power steering issues. If the fluid is low, top it up and check for any leaks. If the problem persists, it might be a good idea to have a mechanic inspect the power steering system. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions!

I forgot to specify that I don't have any power steering problems, it's just that squeaking noise. I also have another problem, when the engine is cold, a knocking sound is heard, like a small ball bouncing around in an empty box, near the pulleys, but I haven't seen any play in the accessory belt or pulleys. After the engine warms up, it's almost inaudible. This noise appears randomly, not every day. It also depends on how much the car is used. Thank you.

For the squeaking noise when turning the steering wheel, check the condition of the serpentine belt. It might be worn or loose, causing the noise during steering. Regarding the knocking sound when the engine is cold, it could be related to the timing chain or tensioner. Cold starts can sometimes highlight issues with these components. Consider having a mechanic inspect the timing chain system to ensure everything is functioning properly. Let me know if you have any further questions or updates!
