Stagea Fuel Pump Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Nissan Stagea exhibited issues such as a check engine light, stalling during idle, and reduced engine power. Diagnostics pointed to a defect in the fuel volume regulator, likely due to a failing high-pressure fuel pump, with error code P0087 indicating low fuel rail pressure. A similar experience from another owner suggested the high-pressure fuel pump as the likely culprit. After consulting a certified mechanic, the high-pressure fuel pump was confirmed as faulty and replaced, resolving the issues.

The error code was P0087, indicating low fuel rail pressure. I observed a consistently negative short-term fuel trim at idle, around -15%, and a moderately positive long-term fuel trim, around +8%. I haven't measured fuel pressure directly due to needing specialized tools. Were your error codes and fuel trim behaviors comparable? Any particular sensors known to precipitate such anomalies in our Stagea models?

P0087 and the fuel trims you're seeing match my experience pretty closely. Given what you've already investigated, and especially with that error code, the high-pressure fuel pump is definitely suspect. I'm no expert mechanic, but based on what I went through, I'd suggest getting it checked out by a qualified workshop. They can do a proper fuel pressure test and confirm if it's indeed the pump. Could save you time and unnecessary parts swapping.

I appreciate your assistance. Your corroboration of similar experiences has proven invaluable. Following your recommendation, I consulted a certified mechanic, who confirmed the failure of the high-pressure fuel pump. The faulty component has been replaced, and the vehicle is now operating within nominal parameters. The expenditure amounted to 1510€, aligning with the initial estimate. Thank you for sharing your expertise and guiding me towards a resolution.

I've got a Stagea too. Those symptoms do sound familiar. I had a similar experience a while back, though my mileage was different. Check engine light, stalling, the works. The reduced power is a real drag, isn't it? Did you pull any specific error codes? That might help narrow things down further. What kind of fuel trims are you seeing? Also have you looked at the fuel pressure readings to make sure those are in order?
