Thanks for the detailed reply about the suspension failure issue. Your description matches what I am experiencing exactly. The harsh ride and warning lights are identical to what you mentioned with your Giulia. I will definitely have them check the wiring and connections before replacing any major components. Did you remember roughly how much the repair cost in your case? Also curious if youve had any recurring suspension tuning issues since getting it fixed?

Glad I could help identify the suspension problem. Just got back from the mechanic last week actually. Like in my previous Giulia case, it turned out to be the connector issue causing the car damping system to malfunction. Total repair cost was 95 Euro to clean and fix the faulty cable connection. The suspension failure warning disappeared immediately after the repair, and the ride comfort returned to normal. The electronic shock absorber system is working perfectly now, no more harsh bumps or stiff ride. The mechanic applied protective coating to prevent future corrosion of the connections. Have put about 500km on it since the fix with zero issues. The vehicle suspension feels exactly like it should again, with proper damping adjustment working on all drive modes. Really pleased with how it turned out, especially since it wasnt the expensive repair I initially feared. Make sure your mechanic starts with checking those connections before suggesting costlier repairs. A proper diagnostic scan should confirm if its the same issue as mine.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to share how it went. They found the exact same connector issue that was mentioned. The wiring had corroded and was causing the electronic suspension to default to that super stiff setting. Total bill came to 120 Euro for cleaning the connections, replacing a section of damaged wire, and recalibrating the system. The ride comfort is completely back to normal now, feels like a different car compared to how harsh it was before. The warning light cleared right away after they fixed it. Really glad I asked here first and knew to have them check the wiring before replacing expensive parts. The car handling and suspension tuning are working perfectly again in all modes. Will definitely keep an eye on those connections going forward to catch any issues early. Already put about 200km on it since the repair and everything is staying solid. Such a relief it turned out to be a relatively simple fix.

Had similar suspension issues on my 2018 Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.2 Diesel. The suspension system suddenly felt extremely stiff, especially over small bumps, and the ride comfort dropped significantly. The root cause was a faulty wiring connection to the electronic shock absorber control module. Corrosion had damaged the main connector, causing intermittent communication issues. This triggered the suspension failure warning and put the system in a default firm setting. The fix required cleaning the connector terminals, replacing damaged wiring sections, and applying dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion. The control module also needed recalibration after the repair to restore proper car damping functionality. This is a known weak point in these models. While not a catastrophic suspension failure, it needs proper attention since driving with the system in failsafe mode can affect handling characteristics and potentially cause accelerated wear of suspension components. Before any shop starts replacing expensive parts, insist they thoroughly check all electrical connections and wiring to the suspension control modules. A proper diagnostic scan should pinpoint if its truly a component failure or just a connection issue.
