Stilo AC not working

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2008 Fiat Stilo diesel. The air conditioning system doesn't seem to want to switch on at all. It's done 212484 km. I've noticed the air coming out is no longer cold, just warm air. I plugged it into a code reader and there's an error stored, but I don't know what it means yet. I checked the AC relay and fuses, but they seem fine. Could it be a refrigerant leak or a faulty pressure switch?

Summary of the thread

The air conditioning system in a 2008 Fiat Stilo diesel is not functioning, with warm air being emitted instead of cold. Initial checks of the AC relay and fuses showed no issues, leading to suspicions of a refrigerant leak or a faulty pressure switch. Suggestions include checking the belt tensioner and ensuring the A/C compressor is engaging, indicated by a distinct click sound. It is advised to consult a workshop for a thorough diagnosis, considering potential undervoltage or electrical issues.

Hey, I had a very similar issue with my Stilo a while back. The A/C just stopped blowing cold air. It felt like the whole system was just... off. Did you check the belt tensioner? Sometimes if the belt is loose, it won't drive the A/C compressor properly. Also, is the A/C compressor engaging at all? You should be able to hear a click when it kicks in.

Thanks for the tip! How would I check if the A/C compressor is engaging? Is it a loud click? And where exactly is the belt tensioner located? I'm not very familiar with the engine layout, so any pointers would be great.

The click isn't super loud, but you should definitely hear it if you're standing near the engine with the hood open while someone switches the A/C on and off. It's a pretty distinct sound. As for the belt tensioner, it's usually near the alternator and A/C compressor, keeping tension on the serpentine belt. Honestly, though, if you're not sure, it might be best to take it to a workshop. Undervoltage can also cause the A/C compressor to shut off, or it could be a simple electrical issue. It ended up costing me 240€ to fix. Best to get it checked out properly.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I think you're right, I'll take it to a workshop. I don't want to mess around with it too much and risk causing more damage. I'll mention the belt tensioner and potential undervoltage to them. Hopefully, it's a simple fix like yours was!
