Stilo engine light and smoke

My 2003 Fiat Stilo with a gasoline engine is showing a check engine light, diminished power, and smoke from the exhaust at 218107 kilometers. Could this be a defective crankcase ventilation valve? Has anyone else seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Fiat Stilo is experiencing a check engine light, reduced power, and bluish smoke from the exhaust at 218,107 kilometers. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the crankcase ventilation valve. A similar problem was resolved in another vehicle by replacing this valve, and it is recommended to have the car checked by a professional mechanic to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with the necessary repairs.

Sounds familiar. Had a similar thing happen with my old Saab – different brand, same grief. Is the smoke kinda bluish?

Indeed, the smoke does possess a bluish tinge. Did your Saab's ailment also resolve itself with the replacement of the crankcase ventilation valve? Or did it need more work?

Yep, valve was the culprit. But honestly, chasing down emissions stuff can be a real headache. If you're seeing smoke, best get it checked by a pro.

Duly noted. I'll take it to a mechanic. Thanks! It seems the ventilation valve needs to be replaced and it will cost me around 360€ including labor.
