Stilo Fuel Pump Issue
Summary of the thread
The owner of a 2007 Fiat Stilo is experiencing issues with unreliable engine starts, stalling, a check engine light, rough running, and increased fuel consumption. These symptoms suggest potential fuel delivery problems, possibly due to a defective fuel pump. However, it is also suggested that a clogged fuel filter or faulty electrical connections to the fuel pump could be the cause. After further investigation, it was confirmed that a defective cable connection to the fuel pump was responsible for the issues, and the problem was resolved with a repair.

Thank you for your insights. I have not yet inspected the fuel filter or the electrical connections. Could a faulty cable or plug connection to the fuel pump cause all these symptoms, or do these symptoms definitively indicate a failing fuel pump?

A faulty cable or plug connection is a very plausible cause, and a far easier fix than replacing the pump itself. Given that you've considered these issues, my recommendation would still be to bring your Fiat to a workshop. They can perform a thorough diagnostic and determine the root cause. You might be lucky and it's just a loose wire, but better to be sure before throwing parts at it.

I appreciate your thorough advice. The workshop confirmed a defective cable connection to the fuel pump. The repair cost came to 95€. Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction.

That does sound suspicious. The symptoms you're describing - engine not starting, stalling, check engine light, rough running, and higher fuel consumption all point to possible fuel delivery issues. Since there is an error stored, have you checked the basics like the fuel filter? A clogged filter can restrict fuel flow. Also, it could be an electrical issue, such as corroded or loose wiring, creating a bad connection to the fuel pump, impacting car performance.
