Stilo Oil Pressure Warning

I've got a 2002 Fiat Stilo with a gasoline engine and I'm having a worrying issue. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and I can hear some pretty nasty mechanical noises coming from the engine, especially when it's idling. The car has only done 60646 km. I checked the oil level, and it seems fine. Could this be a faulty oil pressure sensor, or something worse?

I had a similar issue with my Stilo. Those symptoms – low oil pressure light and engine noises – definitely point to a serious problem. Has the oil pressure gauge been showing lower readings than normal? An oil pressure gauge is an instrument used to measure the pressure of the oil in an internal combustion engine. It could also be related to oil leakage.

Thanks for the quick response! I don't have an oil pressure gauge fitted, unfortunately. How did you resolve the issue on your car? And how quickly did the problem escalate for you?

In my case, it turned out to be a defect in the oil pump, which is responsible for circulating oil through your engine. Given your symptoms, I'd strongly advise against driving it any further and get it checked by a workshop immediately. Continuing to drive with low oil pressure can cause severe engine damage. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks a lot for your help and advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right – it was indeed the oil pump. The total repair cost, including the new pump and labor, came to 755€. I'm just glad I caught it before it caused any major damage!
