Strada oil pressure issue

I'm having a worrying issue with my 2022 Fiat Strada diesel. I've got about 223000 km on the clock. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp has started lighting up intermittently. I'm also hearing some pretty loud mechanical noises coming from the engine, which I suspect is related. I checked the oil level, and it seems fine. The oil pressure gauge seems to be acting erratically too. Could this be a faulty oil pressure sensor, or is it something more serious?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Fiat Strada diesel with 223,000 km is experiencing intermittent oil pressure warning lights and loud mechanical noises from the engine. The oil level appears normal, but the oil pressure gauge is erratic. Possible causes include a faulty oil pressure sensor or a more serious issue like a malfunctioning oil pump. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected by a professional, as a faulty oil pump was identified as the problem in a similar case.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had something similar happen in my Strada (I don't remember the year exactly). The oil pressure light would flicker, and the engine sounded like it was about to fall apart. Did you notice if the noise gets worse when the engine is hot? I was really concerned about the engine bearings when mine started doing that.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, the noise does seem to get worse after the engine has warmed up. Did you manage to figure out what the cause was in your case? Was it anything to do with the engine oil itself, maybe a blockage somewhere? I am just trying to prepare myself for the worst and avoid being ripped off.

Well, after checking a few things myself, like you, I wasn't really sure what was going on. Eventually, I took it to a workshop and they said the oil pump was faulty. So yes, definitely get it checked by a professional, it could be a similar issue, and you don't want to risk damaging the engine further.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I appreciate the advice. I took it to a mechanic, and you were right; it was the oil pump. The final repair bill came to 755€ including parts and labor, but at least the issue is resolved.
