Stream ABS Lamp Issue

Hi, I have a 2006 Honda Stream with a gasoline engine, and the ABS lamp keeps lighting up. The ABS system seems to be failing intermittently, and a diagnostic scan shows an error related to the lateral acceleration sensor. Vehicle stability is obviously affected. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Any ideas on what might be the cause?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Honda Stream is experiencing an issue with the ABS lamp lighting up intermittently, linked to a lateral acceleration sensor error. The problem may stem from a faulty sensor, damaged wiring, or a malfunctioning control unit. Suggested solutions include checking the sensor's wiring for damage or corrosion and seeking professional assistance for accurate diagnosis and repair, as specialized tools and expertise are required.

Greetings. While I'm not deeply familiar with the Honda Stream specifically, a faulty lateral acceleration sensor can certainly trigger those symptoms. The ABS, vehicle stability control, and traction control systems all rely on accurate sensor data. Have you checked the sensor's wiring and connections for any signs of damage or corrosion? A loose or corroded connection can sometimes cause intermittent faults. What error code did the scan produce exactly?

Thanks for the reply. I did a quick visual check of the wiring, but nothing obvious jumped out. I'll take a closer look for corrosion. I don't have the exact error code on hand, but it specifically mentioned the lateral acceleration sensor and 'implausible signal'. Is there a specific way I should be testing the sensor itself, or is it more likely the control unit as I've been reading online?

Given the 'implausible signal' error and your description, it does sound increasingly like a potential sensor malfunction or, as you mentioned, a problem within the control unit itself. Accurately diagnosing these issues often requires specialized equipment and expertise. To be frank, without advanced diagnostic tools, pinpointing the exact cause with certainty is difficult. Considering the complexity, especially with potential control unit involvement, I'd recommend seeking professional assistance at a qualified workshop to avoid further complications.

Appreciate the advice. Sounds like it's beyond my capabilities. I'll take it to a shop. From the sound of things I should expect to replace the control unit entirely. From what I've been told, I'm probably looking at around 1000€ for the repair.
