Subaru Airbag Warning Light Signals Safety Risk Alert

My 2007 Subaru Justy started showing an airbag warning light on the dashboard yesterday. Having read about potential airbag recalls and vehicle safety issues, I want to ensure the restraint system is working properly. The light stays on continuously while driving. Before taking it to a workshop, I would like to know what specific components might need checking. Has anyone dealt with this issue and can share their repair experience? Most interested in knowing which parts were faulty and the repair costs involved. Any input on whether this could be related to a crash sensor malfunction would be helpful.

I had a similar issue with my 2009 Subaru Trezia last year. Having some experience with basic car maintenance, I still decided to have this checked professionally since the airbag system is a critical vehicle safety component. The airbag warning light in my case was triggered by a faulty connection in the wiring harness under the drivers seat. The workshop diagnosed it as a loose airbag sensor connector that was causing intermittent signal issues in the restraint system. They cleaned the contacts and properly secured the plug connection, which resolved the warning light issue completely. The total repair cost was 95€, including diagnostic time. While it turned out to be a relatively simple fix, anything involving airbag systems should be properly inspected by professionals to ensure everything works as intended. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Has the car been in any minor accidents or bumps recently? Did the warning light appear suddenly or did it flicker before staying on? Have you had any recent work done near the seats or center console? Does the warning light briefly turn off and on when starting the car? This information would help determine if your issue might be similar to what I experienced or if it could be related to other crash sensor components.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine has 22623 KM and got serviced last month. No accidents or damage, the SRS light just appeared suddenly during normal driving. The light does its normal check when starting the car but then stays illuminated continuously. No recent work was done on the seats or console area. I appreciate the insight about checking the wiring connectors. Given the age of these Justy models, deteriorating connections in the automotive safety system seem like a common issue. Will have the airbag sensor connections inspected first before looking at more complex restraint system components. Since the repair cost was reasonable in your case, I will book it in to have the fault properly diagnosed. Better to address any potential airbag system issues promptly.

Thanks for the additional details about your Justy. Since our cars are from a similar era, this definitely sounds like the same wiring issue I experienced with my Trezia. The symptoms match exactly, sudden SRS light activation with no prior warning or accident damage. Given the low mileage and recent service, the most likely culprit is indeed corroded or loose airbag sensor connections rather than a major system fault. After my repair, I learned these models tend to develop connection issues around the 15-20 year mark due to the wiring harness design. The good news is that once properly cleaned and secured, the fix tends to be permanent. My SRS light has stayed off for over a year now with no airbag deployment or crash sensor warnings since. One tip based on my experience: ask the workshop to check all the sensor connections while they have it apart, not just the obviously loose ones. This preventive step only added about 15€ to my total bill but saved potential future issues with the vehicle safety system. Keep us posted on what they find. If it ends up being different from my wiring harness problem, that information could help other Justy owners facing similar automotive safety concerns.

Thanks for the detailed responses. After having the car inspected, you were absolutely right about the wiring connections being the culprit. The technician found corroded airbag sensor contacts under the drivers seat, just like described. The total repair came to 110€ which included a full SRS system diagnostic check and cleaning of all the crash sensor connections as suggested. The airbag repair was straightforward and the SRS light cleared immediately after fixing the wiring harness issue. For anyone else with a similar automotive safety concern on these older models, having all sensor connections checked while the system is opened up was good advice. The technician mentioned these preventive checks can help avoid future airbag recall related issues. Really appreciate the guidance from fellow owners. Good to know the repair should last now that all the restraint system connections have been properly serviced.
