Suburban NOx Sensor Failure

My 2017 Chevrolet Suburban with a gasoline engine is throwing a check engine light, and the error memory shows a NOx sensor failure at only 43338 km. I can also smell an exhaust leak. I've checked the cable and plug connection to the sensor itself, and it looks okay, but I suspect that's the culprit. Has anyone else seen this? I'm concerned about pollution control.

I had something similar happen on my Suburban, though I can't remember the exact year. Check engine light, NOx sensor error... the whole shebang. For me, the exhaust leak was a separate issue, a cracked manifold. Are you sure the exhaust smell is coming from the sensor itself and not somewhere else?

Good point. I hadn't considered the exhaust leak might be unrelated. I assumed it was all tied together with the NOx sensor and pollution control issues. How did you pinpoint the exhaust leak? And did replacing the NOx sensor fix the check engine light problem?

The shop found the exhaust leak with a smoke test; apparently, it's a common issue. And yeah, replacing the NOx sensor cleared the check engine light right up. I'd take it to a workshop. They'll diagnose the exhaust leak and NOx sensor properly. Better than chasing ghosts, trust me.
