Suzuki APV Parking Sensor Failure Needs Quick Fix

My 2017 Suzuki APV is having issues with the parking assist system. The parking sensors stopped working completely and the system shows an error code. The ultrasonic sensors appear to be getting power but there is no response when reversing. Has anyone experienced similar problems with their parking assist system? I suspect a fault in the control module but would like to know what specific repairs were needed to fix this and roughly what it cost. Any tips on whether this is typically a sensor replacement job or something more complex would be really helpful before I take it to a workshop.

I had a similar issue with my 2019 Suzuki Ertiga. As someone with some experience working on cars, I initially tried basic troubleshooting of the parking assist system, but quickly realized it needed professional attention. The ultrasonic sensors were receiving power, but the obstacle detection system remained unresponsive. After taking it to a workshop, they diagnosed a faulty wiring connection between the proximity sensors and the control module. The repair involved replacing damaged connector pins and resoldering a loose connection. The total cost was 95€ including diagnostic work. The key learning was that parking assist issues often stem from wiring problems rather than failed sensors themselves. The radar sensors and related components were actually fine, just disconnected due to a bad connection. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: Have you noticed any water damage or recent impacts near the sensors? Does the error code remain constant or appear intermittently? Are all parking sensors non-functional or just specific ones? Did the problem develop gradually or happen suddenly? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my vehicle.

Latest service was completed at 51603 KM. The parking sensors began malfunctioning right after noticing water seeping through the rear bumper during heavy rain. The error code appears constantly and all parking sensors are non-functional. The rearview camera still works normally though. I checked the connections and cleaned the ultrasonic sensors but nothing changed. Looking under the bumper, I noticed some corrosion on the wiring harness connectors. Based on your experience, it does sound like water damage might have affected the wiring rather than the sensors themselves. Before booking a repair, I will have the faulty wiring inspected first since that seems like the most likely cause. Would be great to avoid unnecessary sensor replacements if the issue is just corroded connections.

Thanks for those details, definitely sounds similar to what I experienced with my Suzuki Ertiga. The water damage pattern matches exactly what happened in my case, particularly the corrosion on the wiring harness connectors. The blind spot sensors and obstacle detection system in these models share a common wiring loom that runs behind the rear bumper. When water gets in, it tends to corrode the connectors first rather than damage the ultrasonic sensors themselves. The fact your rearview camera still works supports this, since it uses separate wiring. In my repair, the technician found extensive corrosion in the main control module connector. They had to: 1. Clean all connector pins 2. Replace the damaged section of the wiring harness 3. Apply dielectric grease to prevent future corrosion 4. Reseal the bumper seams to stop water ingress The full repair came to 95€, but yours might vary depending on the extent of corrosion. Best to get those connectors checked and cleaned before considering full sensor replacement. Also worth having them check if the control module itself has been affected by moisture.

I appreciate the detailed response. That helps confirm my suspicions about the wiring being the culprit rather than the proximity sensors themselves. The similar water damage pattern and corrosion issues you experienced match what I am seeing. I will have the workshop focus on inspecting and repairing the wiring harness connections first. Makes sense that the rearview camera still works since it has separate wiring from the parking assist system. The cost estimate of around 95€ for the repair work seems reasonable if it just needs connector cleaning and harness repairs. Will also ask them to check the control module for moisture damage and properly seal the bumper to prevent future water intrusion. Better to address all potential issues while they are working on it. Thanks for sharing your experience, it has helped narrow down the likely cause and needed repairs before I take it in.
