Thanks for sharing your Golf experience. The issues sound identical to what I am experiencing with my T-Roc. Vehicle stalling has also started happening occasionally during my morning commute, which makes me even more concerned now. I took your advice and scheduled a diagnostic test for next week. The symptoms you described with the glow plug system match perfectly. Cannot risk more damage to the engine. Would you mind sharing how much the repair cost in your case? Also curious if you had any recurring issues with the control unit after the fix?

Glad I could help with your T-Roc situation. After my mechanic fixed the faulty glow control unit connection last month, the cold start problems and vehicle stalling completely stopped. The repair was straightforward, just 95€ to fix a damaged cable connection to the control unit. Much cheaper than I initially feared. No recurring issues since the fix. The engine light cleared immediately, and the preheating lamp now works normally. The engine misfire symptoms during acceleration disappeared, and the exhaust smoke cleared up too. The diagnostic test was spot on in identifying the exact connection problem. Getting it fixed quickly definitely prevented more serious engine damage. Quick tip: if you notice any glow plug related issues in the future, best to address them immediately to avoid more costly repairs.

Just got back from the workshop after following your advice. The diagnostic test confirmed exactly what you mentioned, faulty glow plug connections causing the issues. Total repair cost came to 110€, which included fixing two damaged connectors and a thorough check of the diesel engine components. The mechanic completed everything in about 3 hours. No more vehicle stalling or smoke from the exhaust. The engine misfire during acceleration has completely disappeared, and both warning lights are now off. Really relieved I caught this early before it caused serious engine damage. This new workshop was much more professional than my previous mechanic. They showed me the damaged parts and explained everything clearly. Running perfectly now after a week of driving, so looks like the problem is properly solved. Thanks again for helping me avoid a potentially bigger repair bill.

Had similar issues with a 2014 Golf TDI. The constant preheating lamp combined with engine light typically points to glow plug system problems. A diagnostic test revealed faulty connections between the glow plug control unit and two heating elements. The smoke during acceleration is a clear indicator of incomplete combustion, common when the glow plugs fail to properly heat the combustion chamber. In my case, the car maintenance revealed corroded wiring harness connectors leading to the glow plugs, causing intermittent electrical contact. This is a serious issue that needs prompt attention, as continued driving with malfunctioning glow plugs can lead to starting problems and potential engine damage. The fix required replacing the control unit and rewiring the glow plug connections. The repair process took about 4 hours at the workshop. Would strongly recommend getting a proper diagnostic test done at a specialized diesel workshop. The symptoms match classic glow plug system failure, and postponing repairs could lead to more extensive damage.
