T-Roc Engine Stalling & Start-Stop System Issues Fix

Had my last service at 85000km and started experiencing the stalling right after that. In my case, the engine stalling happened more frequently when the engine was warm, especially in slow traffic with eco mode activated. The battery is the original one from 2021. The idle stop feature definitely seems connected since the stalling mostly occurs right after the system tries to restart the engine. The starter motor sounds normal though, and I havent noticed any issues with the electrical systems or headlights. My dashboard warning only appears when the stalling occurs, unlike some battery issues that show constant warnings. Will update once I get it checked at the workshop next week.

Thanks for those additional details. Since our cars are similar, I can share that my stalling also happened more in warm conditions with eco mode on. While my issue was battery-related, your symptoms point more towards a possible idle stop system malfunction, especially since the starter motor and electrics are working fine. The timing of your issues starting after the service is noteworthy. In my research while dealing with my T-Cross problems, I learned that sometimes routine service work can inadvertently affect the engine start system sensors or connections. The idle stop feature is quite sensitive to proper calibration. The fact that your stalling occurs mainly during engine restart attempts in traffic suggests the problem could be with either: The idle stop control module, Engine restart sensors, Fuel delivery system during restart phase Since your battery is relatively new compared to when my issues occurred, and you have no electrical symptoms, I would focus the workshop diagnostic on these components. My repair cost might not be relevant since yours seems to be a different root cause. Keep eco mode turned off until the repair to minimize stalling risks. Would be interested to hear the workshop diagnosis next week.

Thank you for this helpful insight. After hearing your experience, it makes sense that my stalling issues could be linked to the idle stop system rather than just the car battery. Will definitely mention the connection between the service timing and when these problems started. Going to follow your advice about keeping eco mode off until the workshop visit. The stalling is quite concerning especially in heavy traffic, so taking every precaution. Engine start issues are definitely not something to ignore. Appreciate the detailed breakdown of possible causes. Will take notes about the idle stop control module and restart sensors to discuss with the technician. Makes me feel better prepared for the diagnostic session. Will post an update after the workshop visit next week with their findings and repair costs. Hopefully it will help others who might face similar engine stalling problems with their vehicles.

I faced a very similar issue with my 2019 VW T-Cross. As someone with moderate experience working on cars, this really had me worried initially. The main symptoms matched yours exactly, unusual engine stalling and warning lights, plus the start-stop system was acting up. After some troubleshooting, it turned out the car battery was heavily discharged and needed replacement. These issues often occur when the battery cant maintain proper voltage for the engine management and start-stop system. The workshop diagnosed it quickly with their testing equipment. Total cost was 290€ including the new battery, labor and resetting the error codes. The whole repair took about 2 hours. Before suggesting more specific solutions, could you share: How old is your current battery? Does the problem occur more often when the engine is cold or warm? Are you using the start-stop system frequently in city traffic? Have you noticed any other electrical issues like dim headlights? This information would help determine if youre dealing with a similar battery-related problem or if theres another underlying issue with your hybrid vehicle systems.
