T-Roc Fuel Injection Issues: Common Signs & Solutions

My 2021 T-Roc petrol is showing multiple issues that point to fuel injection problems. The car burns way more fuel than normal, lacks power, and produces smoke during acceleration. It also keeps stalling when idling. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and had their injection system repaired? Really interested in learning what exactly was wrong and how the workshop fixed it. Any help would make my next workshop visit more productive.

Summary of the thread

The 2021 T-Roc petrol exhibited symptoms of fuel injection issues, including excessive fuel consumption, power loss, smoke during acceleration, and stalling when idling. These problems were traced to a wiring issue in the fuel injection system, specifically a loose connection in the wiring harness affecting cylinder 1. The repair involved fixing the wiring, which restored normal engine performance and fuel efficiency. Regular use of fuel system cleaner and checking wiring connections during maintenance were recommended to prevent future issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

As someone with moderate experience maintaining cars, I had a very similar issue with my 2019 T-Cross with the petrol engine last summer. The symptoms matched exactly what you describe, excessive fuel consumption, power loss, and smoke during acceleration. After some troubleshooting, the workshop found that the fuel injection system had a loose connection in the wiring harness. The faulty connection was causing irregular fuel delivery to the system, leading to poor combustion and all those symptoms you mentioned. The repair involved testing the connections and replacing a damaged wire section, costing 95€ in total. The fix immediately improved fuel efficiency and restored proper power delivery. No more stalling or smoke issues since then. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Engine size and type, Current mileage, Check engine light status, Any diagnostic codes shown, When the problems first started This information would help determine if your T-Roc is experiencing the same electrical connection issue or if there might be another problem with the fuel injection system.

Thanks for the detailed input. My last maintenance was actually done at 55000km, about 3 months ago. The check engine light started flashing just last week at 60636km. I got error code P0201 which seems related to cylinder 1 injector circuit malfunction. The engine behaves exactly as you described with your T-Cross. The fuel consumption has increased dramatically, using about 2-3 liters more per 100km than usual. The smoke is particularly noticeable during cold starts. Your experience with the wiring harness issue seems very relevant. My local workshop quoted 280€ just for diagnostics, so knowing about the potential wiring connection problems will help focus their inspection.

Glad I could help with my previous experience. Based on the P0201 code you mentioned, it definitely points to the same electrical issue I had with my T-Cross. The dramatic increase in fuel consumption and smoke during cold starts matches the performance problems I experienced before the repair. The 280€ diagnostic quote seems high compared to my repair costs. Since you already have the error code narrowed down to cylinder 1 injector circuit, the workshop should be able to focus directly on testing the wiring connections and injector resistance values without extensive diagnostic time. After my repair, I noticed these immediate improvements: Fuel consumption returned to normal levels, Engine maintained stable idle, No more diesel-like smoke during acceleration, Full power restoration A key maintenance tip I learned: regular fuel system cleaning helps prevent these issues. Since my repair, I use fuel system cleaner every 15000km and haven't experienced any fuel delivery problems or performance issues. The fact that your problems started shortly after maintenance suggests they might have disturbed some connections while working on something else. Worth mentioning this to the workshop.

Thanks for the helpful responses. I took my T-Roc to the workshop yesterday and they confirmed the cylinder 1 injector wiring was indeed the culprit. The maintenance work from 3 months ago had caused some wiring damage when they were accessing other components. The total repair cost was 190€, much less than their initial diagnostic quote. The engine performance is now back to normal with proper power delivery and the fuel consumption has dropped back to standard levels. No more smoke during cold starts either. I will definitely follow the maintenance advice about using fuel system cleaner every 15000km. The mechanic also recommended checking all wiring connections during future services to prevent similar issues. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences. Having that specific information about wiring harness problems helped me have a more focused conversation with the workshop and likely saved both time and money.
